Please Elaborate: An Exploration of the Ceramic Surface brings together ceramic works that begin with function but move beyond it. Through glaze, slip, texture, mark-making, and material interventions, artists transform familiar forms into layered explorations of memory, labor, ritual, cultural reference, and more. Guest curated and juried by Eva Champagne, the exhibition celebrates ceramic tradition while exploring the possibilities of surface as a powerful site of meaning and expression.

Eva Champagne initially invited three Montana-based artists to set the tone for the exhibition: George Metropoulos McCauley, Kelly Stevenson, and Sue Tirrell. Through a juried based process, 17 additional artists from throughout the United States had specific works selected for the exhibit:  Cassandra Beattie, Nina Berinstein, Gabriella Brinkley, Janet K. Burner, Jason L Edmonds, Maddie Gage, Sasha Hill, Samantha Hostert, Madeline Kaczmarczyk, Hannah Kautto, Macgregor Mason, Caitlin Ross, Shana Salaff, Ariana Stein, Mabel Thaden, Veronica Watkins, Sabrina Weld.

The exhibition will be on display at the Clay Studio of Missoula from October 2-31, with an opening on Friday, October 2 from 5-8pm
